Autumn in Andalusia
Autumn in Andalusia
Escape the Grey Days – Enjoy the Sunshine at Casa España
Casa España Journal – Discover the Real Andalusia
What if summer didn't have to end in August?
While much of Europe is already heading towards shorter days, cooler temperatures and grey skies, September, October and November can be some of the most beautiful months to experience Andalusia.
The intense heat of midsummer begins to fade. The villages become quieter. The Mediterranean is still close. The mountains invite you to explore again. And there is something particularly enjoyable about sitting outside in the Andalusian sunshine while autumn has already arrived elsewhere in Europe.
At Casa España in Cómpeta, we're making an autumn escape even more attractive with our Special Autumn Rates.
Stay from only €95 per night for 2 guests.*
Come south.
Find the sun.
And discover why autumn may actually be one of the best seasons to experience the real Andalusia.
Why Visit Andalusia in Autumn?
Ask many visitors when they would travel to southern Spain and they'll immediately say July or August.
We disagree.
Summer has its advantages, of course. But if you want to explore Andalucía rather than simply survive the midday heat, autumn can be considerably more rewarding.
September, October and November bring a different rhythm to the Axarquía.
The busiest holiday period is over.
Restaurants and village squares feel more relaxed.
Walking becomes enjoyable again.
The light changes.
And there is far more temptation to turn down a small mountain road just to see where it goes.
This is the Andalucía we love.
September – Summer Isn't Over Yet
September is one of our favourite months in southern Spain.
The Mediterranean has spent the entire summer warming up, beach days can still be very much part of your holiday and the evenings remain wonderfully suited to outdoor dining.
But the atmosphere begins to change.
The peak August crowds disappear and travelling becomes more relaxed.
Spend the morning exploring a white village.
Drive down towards Nerja or Maro for a few hours beside the Mediterranean.
Have lunch at a chiringuito.
Then return to the mountains for sunset.
September gives you a little bit of everything.
October – Perhaps Andalusia's Best-Kept Secret
If we had to recommend one month for exploring the Axarquía, October would be very high on our list.
The fierce summer temperatures have passed, yet southern Spain can still offer wonderfully pleasant days.
This is the season for getting outside again.
Walk.
Photograph.
Explore the pueblos blancos.
Visit Málaga.
Drive into the mountains.
Have a long lunch somewhere you hadn't planned to stop.
And when the evening becomes cooler, return to Casa España and enjoy the warmth of the private jacuzzi overlooking the mountains.
October isn't an inferior version of summer.
It's a completely different Andalusian experience.
November – Escape the European Grey
November is when the contrast becomes particularly attractive.
In much of central and northern Europe, autumn is rapidly moving towards winter.
Here in southern Andalucía, life still happens outdoors whenever the weather allows.
There will naturally be cooler days and occasional rain – this is autumn, after all – but the possibility of enjoying sunshine, blue skies and outdoor lunches makes November an attractive time for anyone who wants to postpone winter for a little longer.
And the region is wonderfully quiet.
No peak-season rush.
No need to collect tourist attractions.
Just time.
Stay in the Mountains – Keep the Mediterranean Close
Casa España gives you the best of both worlds.
Our holiday home is located in the hills above Cómpeta, one of the characteristic white villages of the Axarquía.
From here, you can spend your days exploring:
Cómpeta and the surrounding white villages
The Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama
Frigiliana
Nerja
Maro and the Mediterranean coastline
Málaga
Local vineyards and gastronomy
Hiking routes and natural landscapes
Some of our favourite places that never make it onto Google Maps
And at the end of the day, you return to the peace of the mountains.

And Sometimes, Do Absolutely Nothing
Not every day needs an itinerary.
Have breakfast outside.
Read.
Walk into Cómpeta for coffee.
Come home.
Open a bottle of local Moscatel.
Get into the jacuzzi.
Watch the mountains change colour as the sun goes down.
Travel doesn't always have to be about doing more.
Sometimes the luxury is simply having time.
